Application in Divorce In a legal action, relief is deliverance from a wrong, from oppression or injustice. Used this way, the pursuit of relief is a general designation for assistance, redress of a wrong at the hands of court, particularly in equity actions. In this the complaint seeks performance, injunction, reformation or rescission of contract.

In order to seek relief, a party must have a cause for action; the remedy is the relief.
