Definition RURESA - Revised Uniform Reciprocal Enforcement of Support Act.
Application in Divorce RURESA is an act facilitating interstate enforcement of support orders.

Some noncustodial parents become deadbeats; that is, they fall behind in the payment of their support.

RURESA was superseded in 1989 and 1999 by the Uniform Interstate Family Support Act, which is much more comprehensive and provides for the collection of alimony.

RURESA and UIFSA provide for the enforcement of support across state lines. A wife or mother living in one jurisdiction institutes support proceedings against a father or husband living in another. The court in the jurisdiction of the husband or father then issues process for his appearance and a support order is issued, and it is transmitted to the court in the initiating state.

States may have different versions of UIFSA, so the advice an attorney may be required.

See UIFSA.
