Definition Perjury - the act of lying under oath in court or in a deposition.
Application in Divorce Perjury is making false statement under oath. When a person a person is uncertain about the truth of a statement he or she is making, prefacing testimony with "To the best of knowledge and belief" is a safer course.

Although penalties for perjury exist, in civil court misrepresentations are rarely actionable. A judge or jury simply decide who or/or what is believable and act accordingly.

At one time, before liberalization of the divorce laws in the United States, fault divorce pushed parties to the limit. One veteran Pennsylvania judge called divorce court "liar’s club" because everyone involved knew that the parties would make misrepresentations in court.
