Definition Lord Mansfield’s Rule - the legal presumption that a child born to a married woman is the child of her husband.

Application in Divorce The rule rendered inadmissible testimony by either spouse on the question of whether a husband had access to the wife at the time of conception of a child.

This eighteenth century English rule, followed by the American courts, has lost favor because of genetic testing. Several jurisdictions have abandoned it entirely.
