Definition Cross Notice of Motion; Notice of Cross Motion - a pleading in which the cross-moving party puts the court and other parties on notice that he or she is requesting specific items of judicial relief.

Application in Divorce This is a tactic by which a cross-mover explains why equitable relief is necessary. Other parties to the action are then given time to reply to the motion, after which the court rules on the motion as well as the notice of motion, and grants, denies or reserves judgment on the items requested.

In divorce actions, cross motions are used in conjunction with marital torts between spouses.
