Definition Civil Annulment - a judgment of nullity of a marriage in the secular courts.

Application in Divorce This refers to a legal annulment rather than a religious annulment.

A civil annulment will grant the Petitioner or Plaintiff with an order stating the marriage never existed; therefore, the results are similar to that of a divorce, but rather the marriage is never acknowledged. There are strict requirements to quality for a civil annulment.

Most annulments are granted by religious tribunals.
