Definition Chart Child Support Method - a method used in some legal jurisdictions to establish a base for determining child support.
Application in Divorce Every state has a complicated formula for calculating support, but most also have websites that provide a general estimate of child support that a noncustodial parent pays.

The chart support method, used in some legal jurisdictions to establish a base for support, takes into account the gross income of both parents, less special adjustments (such as support paid for children of previous marriage).

The chart support method uses the net monthly income of the noncustodial parent as the basis of support.

The court has the authority to deviate from the formula as it deems necessary for reason such as, but not limited to; education, medical care, high income level, and low income level.

Court will approve support arrangements they deem "fair and reasonable", so the amount that the state guidelines produce, will not necessarily be the amount awarded by the court.
