The petition or complaint is often certified before submitting it to the court. This certification will appear at the end of the petition or complaint and will state that the contents of the petition or complaint are true and accurate to the best of the petitioner or plaintiff’s knowledge. It is often required that this certification be signed in front of a notary, because it is a written oath to the court that the truth is being represented in the document in regards to what is being presented, alleged and asked for.
