Definition Bond of Marriage - the creation of a connubial union between husband and wife, with all the privileges and duties of spouses.
Application in Divorce Marriage is an institution that has evolved over hundreds of generations. The bond of marriage is but one facet of the institution.

It’s the bond of marriage that is terminated when a divorce or dissolution of marriage has been granted by the court. Upon the termination of the bond of marriage, each party is once again recognized as a separate individual.

In regards to a legal separation (which are not offered in all states), the bond of marriage is not terminated, but rather remains intact while other issues regarding the marital relationship are resolved, such as dividing the property and debt and establishing support and custody.
