Definition Administrative Officer - an appointed official who presides over child support cases instead of a judge or commissioner.
Application in Divorce A judge is often referred to as an officer of the court. There are many officers of the court, and each of these officers may have several duties or a specific duty. The officer of the child support division of a local or state court oversees and manages child support orders. This officer often acts as a judge or referee of the court in determining whether a support order should be modified. Most child support orders should be re-examined at least every two to three years. Without the help of an officer, the courts would be continuously backed up with modification cases. Child support orders are most often modified due to a change in custody and visitation arrangements and the fluctuation of the parents’ income.

Helpful Tips & Facts
  1. Providing Proof of Income
The administrator overseeing a child support modification request will determine whether or not the reasoning for the request is legitimate. If the reason is related to an increase or decrease in income of one or both parents, one should be prepared to provide proof of income with copies of a W-2 or recent pay stubs. Also keep in mind that a temporary change in income may not warrant a modification.
  2. Your Child Support Officer
Each county court may have a unique title assigned to the administrative officer who deals with child support. You may have to request to talk to someone in the child support enforcement department to find out the correct title for the officer who oversees support modifications. Addressing him or her properly in written correspondence is very important.
