Negotiate with a written plan with alternatives.
Be proactive: (1) Be clear on the issue by stating an overall statement of the situation in one sentence; (2) gather any needed facts and be sure of their accuracy -- never assume; (3) write out three plans -- one you would like to see happen and two more that you can live with so you have options; (4) be able to articulate why each solution would be of benefit to not only you, but others involved (5) when you feel confident that your facts are correct and your solutions make sense, approach the other and ask for a time to meet to see if the issue can be resolve.
